Gathering of Nations Limited
Congratulates the Shinnecock Nation:
The Gathering of Nations takes extreme pride
in congratulating the Shinnecock Nation of Long Island New York for
receiving federal recognition and becoming a federally recognized
tribe in the United States of America. It took more than 30 years to
gain this special note in American history and to find their place
among other tribes in the United States. Despite all battles,
arguments, and court fights placed in front of them by western
tribes, state government of New York, and racist politicians, their
hard fought goal has been achieved. The members of the Shinnecock
Nation have been friends and supporters of the Gathering of Nations
and the Mathews family for many years. Honovi Smith, a tribal member
and champion Northern Traditional dancer served as the Head Man
Dancer at the 2010 Gathering of Nations Pow Wow.
